What is a domicile in Amazon Relay?

You'll see "domicile" all over Relay. Here's what Amazon means by it and how it shapes the work you book.

Short answer

A domicile in Amazon Relay is a greater city area. Amazon says a round trip "begins and ends in the same domicile," so drivers get back home. Contracts start and end at a domicile, and some auctions run between two.

What does domicile mean on Amazon Relay?

It's Amazon's word for a city area. Amazon's trucking work post says: "A roundtrip load begins and ends in the same domicile (Amazon speak for greater city areas)."

Amazon doesn't publish a list of domiciles or where each one's boundary sits.

Why do round trips start and end at a domicile?

To get drivers home. Amazon says: "That return leg lets your drivers get back home."

The driver setups Amazon lists show how long a driver is out:

On contracts, Amazon's contracts post says: "Individual drivers have the option to come home every day or every other day, and team drivers can return every five days." Our hours of service guide covers the rules behind those times.

Amazon says this type of haul "usually only requires a tractor (aka power-only)." See Amazon Relay power only.

How do blocks relate to a domicile?

A block is time, not one load. Amazon says: "A block is a chunk of time that a carrier reserves their trucks and drivers for Relay. Amazon plans tours that start and end within the duration of the block and pays carriers even if Amazon doesn't use the full block of time."

Our contracts guide covers blocks and each contract type.

How is domicile used in contracts and auctions?

Amazon's contracts post compares the two:

ContractsAuctions
Start and end locationDomicile (city or area)Domicile, or lane (a specific warehouse)
Trip typeRound tripOne-way
Grade neededB+ or aboveC+ or above

The grade row comes from Amazon's 2026 booking post.

For domicile-based auctions, Amazon's auctions post says "you'll be tendered lanes between a starting and ending domicile (greater city area)." If a lane is cancelled, Amazon "may be able to swap it with other lanes that are between the two domiciles."

New in 2026: "Auctions now offer multi-carrier awards, domicile-to-domicile auctions, and bulk bidding." Our auctions guide explains bidding.

How do you search loads by domicile?

Start from where your truck is. Amazon says "every truck load search starts with the origin and radius you're trying to book." Its box truck loads post adds: "You can look at a domicile and see everything available to your equipment."

Want several loads in a row from one area? See how to book multiple loads on Amazon Relay. Board basics are in our load board guide.

Before you book a round trip, check what it leaves you. Our free Relay load calculator shows a load's net, net per loaded mile and break-even rate from its pay, miles and your costs.

Does your scorecard show performance by domicile?

Yes. Amazon's performance score page says: "Carriers can also see performance at the domicile level to understand regional patterns, and even the single-load-level so they can coach drivers."

Amazon doesn't publish how domicile-level scores feed your overall grade. See our scorecard guide.

How do you change your domicile on Amazon Relay?

Amazon doesn't publish a "change your domicile" setting. It describes a domicile as where a load or contract starts and ends. It doesn't say whether a carrier has a home domicile on its account.

What you can change is your search. Every load search starts from the origin and radius you pick, so set them for the area you want to work.

What doesn't Amazon publish about domiciles?

Where does NudoIQ fit?

If you book round trips out of one area, NudoIQ works on the Relay search you've already set. It's a Chrome extension that refreshes the board, shows net profit on each load from your costs, and can book loads that clear your minimum net profit, up to a max-books number you set. During the trial and on the paid plan, its Pro View shows every stop's facility address and the driver type. It's independent, not affiliated with Amazon. Try it 7 days free, no card needed to start, then $49.99 a month. See how the NudoIQ extension works.
