How the Board Suggests Additional Work
After you book a load, the Relay board can suggest return trips and reload recommendations to help you continue your journey. These are loads posted by other shippers that match your truck and route. They are suggestions only. You still choose whether to book them.
Pickup Time Options
On some loads you can choose your own pickup time at booking to allow for traffic, deadhead, or HOS planning. If a load offers time options, you see them when you open the load details. This helps you fit a second load into your schedule without missing the pickup window.
Not all loads offer time options. If the load has a fixed pickup window only, you must pick up during that window or you cannot take the load.
Plan Against Your HOS Window
Under federal Hours of Service rules, you can drive 11 hours within a 14-hour window after 10 consecutive hours off duty. Full details are in the FMCSA regulations.
Before you book a second load, count your hours:
- How long does the first load take (pickup + drive time + delivery)?
- How long is the deadhead to the second pickup?
- Does the second load fit in your remaining HOS time?
If you add them up and you do not have time, do not book the second load. Running out of HOS leaves you stranded on the side of the road.
Post A Truck
Instead of hunting the board for a second load, you can post your truck. You list your truck's availability and minimum payout, and Relay will instantly book loads that match your criteria.
Post A Truck is useful if you know where you want to go and want to control your minimum rate. However, a post is not guaranteed. You might not get a match.
Performance and Load Access
High-performing carriers get first access to loads posted on the load board. Your performance scorecard tracks your record on loads you book. The scorecard is in the Relay portal under Performance.
Higher scores open more load choices. Lower scores limit which loads you see first.
Cancellations and Scorecard
If you book a load and then cancel it, that shows on your scorecard. Your scorecard is visible in the Relay portal and affects which loads you see and when.
Do not book a load unless you are certain you can pick it up and complete it.
Booking is Committing
Once you book a load, you are committed to the pickup time and delivery deadline. The spot price is all-in: base rate, fuel surcharge and tolls, and you book at the listed price. On select spot loads you can name your own price; Relay Assistant evaluates the request and may approve or counter.
You cannot hold a load while you decide. Book only when you are ready to go.
Large Peak Volume
Volume of loads on the board is thousands at any time, and nearly doubles during peak seasons like Prime Day and holidays. During peak, more loads mean more opportunity to find a second load, but also more competition for the best work.
