Amazon Relay business for sale: what to know before you buy

Seen an Amazon Relay business, fleet or routes for sale? Here's what Amazon says about ownership changes and what it never promises a buyer.

Short answer

Amazon Relay businesses for sale are listed by sellers, not by Amazon. Amazon doesn't say a Relay account, grade or contracts carry over to a buyer, and it asks you to email relay-ownership-transfers@amazon.com at least 30 days ahead.

Can you buy an Amazon Relay business?

You can buy a trucking company. What Amazon doesn't promise is that its Relay standing comes with it. "Amazon Relay business for sale" listings are offers from sellers, not from Amazon.

Amazon's rule for ownership changes is in its email scams post: "Changing ownership? If you're buying, selling, or closing your business, email relay-ownership-transfers@amazon.com at least 30 days ahead."

It warns that informal transfers "put your company at risk for taxes and claims until a transfer is formally approved."

Amazon doesn't publish what the ownership review checks or how long it takes.

Can you sell your Relay account?

Not to a stranger. Amazon's rule: "Never transfer or sell your account to someone you don't know."

Amazon lists "Unsolicited offers to buy your business or manage your loads" as a scam sign. Scammers who get into an account "add unauthorized drivers, and book loads they intend to steal."

Logins stay personal too. Amazon's geospoofing post says: "Don't share your login information with anyone. Amazon Relay will never request that you share this information." More in our fraud guide and login guide.

Can you buy Amazon Relay routes or contracts?

Amazon doesn't describe routes or contracts as something a carrier owns or can sell. Amazon tenders the loads, and contracts go to carriers that qualify.

The contracts post says: "Our hauling contracts are only available to Relay carriers in good standing." Amazon's 2026 booking post says carriers need "a B+ performance grade or above to view and book contracts (C+ for auctions)."

So a seller who promises routes is promising something Amazon doesn't publish. Check with Amazon before you pay for it. Our contracts guide and scorecard guide explain how contract access works.

What does Amazon check on owners?

Amazon verifies the people who own a carrier. The Relay FAQ says carrier identity verification confirms "your business entity and the identity of all beneficial owners (anyone with more than 25% ownership)." Our requirements guide covers it.

Amazon also tells carriers to report unauthorized changes to an account's setup, password, email, users, phone number or bank account. A sale shouldn't look like any of those. Use the ownership-transfers email instead. Our contact guide lists it with Amazon's other routes.

Does DOT authority transfer with a sale?

That's an FMCSA question. FMCSA's rules on "Transfers of Operating Authority" are in 49 CFR Part 365, Subpart D. They cover approval "to merge, transfer, or lease their operating rights." Some sections there are temporary or suspended, so read the current text or ask FMCSA.

Relay needs a DOT number with interstate authority, active for at least 180 days, and a valid MC number. Amazon doesn't say whether DOT tenure counts from the original grant date after a sale.

This isn't legal or tax advice. Confirm with Amazon and FMCSA before you sign.

Amazon's four wordings of the 180-day rule are side by side in our new authority guide.

Can Amazon help pay for a business or trucks?

Two Amazon programs touch this:

How do you start an Amazon Relay business from scratch?

Apply as a carrier under your own DOT and MC authority. Amazon says there are no fleet size requirements. The steps are in how to sign up for Amazon Relay.

What doesn't Amazon publish about selling a Relay business?

Where does NudoIQ fit?

Whoever owns the carrier, NudoIQ works on the Relay load board. It's a Chrome extension that shows net profit and lane price history on each load, so you can judge a load before you book it. It's independent, not affiliated with Amazon, and it never asks for your Amazon password. Try it 7 days free, no card needed to start, then $49.99 a month. See how the NudoIQ extension works.

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy an Amazon Relay account?

Do Amazon Relay contracts transfer to a new owner?

Amazon doesn't say. It says contracts are only for Relay carriers in good standing, and booking them needs a B+ grade or above.
