Short answer
You invite the driver. Amazon says drivers can only create Relay profiles through invitations from Relay-approved carriers. The driver signs in to the Relay app with an Amazon account, enters CDL and contact details, and must pass the identity check.
How do drivers get on your Relay account?
By invite only. After approval, Amazon's Relay FAQ says: "Add your drivers and equipment to your Relay profile." It also says: "A carrier needs to invite their drivers to create a profile in the Relay app."
Amazon's driver eligibility post is just as clear: "Drivers can only create Relay profiles through invitations from Relay-approved carriers."
Amazon's public pages don't show the click-by-click steps for sending an invite. What they do show is what happens after it.
What does the driver do after the invite?
- Open the Relay app. Log in to an existing Amazon account or create a new one.
- Enter the details. CDL and contact information.
- Take the photos. The license front and back, plus a selfie.
- Pass the checks. "Only drivers who successfully complete an identification check can haul Relay loads."
Amazon typically reviews the information within 48 hours. Each driver needs their own login: "Drivers can't share their accounts." What each check looks at is in our background check guide, and the driver's side is in Amazon Relay for drivers.
What are you responsible for as the carrier?
More than the invite. Amazon says "Carriers are responsible for their own drivers," which covers screening, hours of service, medical certification and license checks.
Two more lines from Amazon to keep in mind:
- "Carriers should only assign Amazon loads to drivers who have successfully passed background checks."
- "Multiple failed selfie checks can impact a driver's and carrier's access to Relay."
So don't promise a driver a load until they've cleared.
How do you assign a Relay load to a driver?
You or your dispatcher book the load on the carrier's account, then put it on an invited driver who passed the checks. The driver runs it in the Relay app.
Keep the app open with location on for the whole trip. App usage is one of the four metrics in your performance score, so one driver who closes the app can pull your grade down. Our app guide covers the driver side.
Can you add a dispatcher to Amazon Relay?
Amazon's own security advice suggests you can. Its email scams post tells carriers to check their "Admin/dispatcher list: Is everyone someone you approved?"
But Amazon doesn't publish the steps or the role names for adding a dispatcher user. The rules that do apply:
- A dispatcher works inside the carrier's own account.
- Never share or resell access to your account.
- No subcontracting or double brokering.
More on the job itself in our dispatcher guide.
How do you keep strangers off your Relay account?
Log in and check it often. The same Amazon post lists what to look at:
| Check | What to ask |
|---|---|
| Driver list | "Do you recognize every driver?" |
| Admin/dispatcher list | Is everyone someone you approved? |
| Recent loads | Did your company book each one? |
| Bank details | Are they still yours? |
Amazon warns that scammers who get in "can access your account, add unauthorized drivers, and book loads they intend to steal." And: "Amazon Relay will never request Relay carrier's sensitive account information, password or the one-time password." See our fraud guide.
Where does NudoIQ fit?
If you or a dispatcher watch the board for several trucks, NudoIQ works in your own Chrome, on the carrier's signed-in Relay tab. It never asks for the Amazon password. It's independent, not affiliated with Amazon.
- Refresh the board at a pace you set
- Alert with a sound when a matching load appears
- Net profit on each load, from costs you enter once
- AutoBook loads that clear your minimum net profit, up to a Max books number you set. Only auto-book loads you can run; cancels hurt your score.
